Copywriting for Three Facebook Projects

Client: Facebook, MKG

Project: Multiple

Capabilities: Stakeholder Presentations, Naming, Messaging, Taglines, Copywriting, Ads, Scripts, Landing Pages

Over the course of a month, working with the agency, MKG, I supported three different Facebook teams on a variety of projects. This is a quick look at each of them.

Sponsoring the AfroTech Conference

My role was to develop messaging guidelines and an overarching theme for the sponsorship. This event meant a great deal to the Facebook team, and so I needed to be extremely precise with every word choice.

Thankfully, when presenting the tagline, “Real talk for a right now moment with global impact,” the key Facebook stakeholder interrupted with a round of applause.

Once the guidelines were drafted and approved, I applied the framework to key touchpoints such as booth graphics, a landing page, and advertisement banners.

Writing a Video Script for the Women in Performance Marketing Event

My role was to come up with three concepts, in 48 hours, for a 1-2 minute long video script. The video would play at the upcoming Women in Performance Marketing Event and needed to leverage existing media assets.

After coming up with the three concepts, the Facebook team choose one, I refined it, and then provided creative direction for the selection of the media assets. I unfortunately no longer have access to the video since the event has ended.

Outlining an ECRM Global Marketplace Presentation and Writing the Intro/Outro for a Guided Meditation Exercise

My role was to define a tone of voice for this event, through messaging guidelines, and then apply that tone to an existing presentation outline. I was also tasked with writing an intro and outro script for a pre-recorded guided meditation exercise that would occur at the end of the event. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to any of the recorded materials, since the event has ended.

In Summary

  • These were my first projects as a copywriter for Facebook. I’d worked with their teams in the past, but in a different capacity as we co-created a case study and a Marketo conference presentation based on the work we had done with Cisco’s Networking Academy. It was interesting to get a look at the company from this angle.

  • Each of these projects came with very short timelines, which made the work challenging. I even had to turn down a fourth project simply because the timelines were too short for me to be able to do quality work.

  • Ultimately, I was glad for the experience, but I ended up turning down additional work from them so that I could focus on other projects.
