Advice is great, but advice on its own won’t make you a better writer. We become better writers by writing and it’s always easier to write when we’re inspired. To that end, a creative prompt using an ordinary item.

This week’s ordinary item: A board game
What is it: Wingspan is a (seriously) beautiful board game designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games in which players become bird enthusiasts, seeking to attract and collect the best birds for their wildlife preserves.
If I could fly…
If I could fly I would say goodbye to a lot of things. I would say goodbye to steering wheels, seatbelts, and gas pumps. It would be the end of dotted lines, turn signals, and merging lanes for me. But I wouldn’t stop there.
If I could fly I would go see the same things I always do but from higher up. There are no new lands I need to explore, only new angles of the same lands.
If I could fly I would come down, but never on the ground. I would set my feet upon branches, poles, cloud gusts and tall rock outcroppings.
If I could fly I would never climb again, but I would still ascend. Higher, always higher. Why turn back when I could go up, up, up?
That’s what I would do if I could fly. What about you?
